Project applies to new idea of distributed electrical flap drive system that is completely integrated into the flap support structure. Major objectives of the project are to increase the availability and reliability, add additional functionalities, simplify installation and advance passenger safety through higher surface redundancy using high lift systems.
Expected project results:
The main challenge in developing this new track integrated single flap drive system is to realize a fault tolerant redundant drive system in the very limited space of the track with no weight penalty on the system and a significant weight reduction on the flap support structure compared to a state-of-the-art system. This can only be achieved in an interdisciplinary system-structure approach with experienced partners, capable to develop structural solutions according to aviation standards.
DAAS team is responsible for one of the work packages that main objective is to evaluate the functions and performance of an aircraft equipped with differential flap system (DFS) and to develop a comprehensive model of an aircraft with integrated model of differential flap system. Expected work results are development of model system architecture, model elements, models integration, implementation of diagnostic functions and failure simulation. Differential flap system will be integrated with aircraft model developed by one of the consortium partners. Results will be used by partners that design system and execute laboratory tests.
NEFS is a research project funded under 6th Framework Programme of the European Union. NEFS Consortium consists of 13 partners with budget 6.1 million euro.
