Vladyslav Pushenko, Mathematical modeling of physical phenomena in the inner ear of humans and animals

The inner ear is a unique physical system that can detect sounds in a wide range of frequencies due to it complex construction and function. In the presentation a simplified fluid-structure interaction model of the inner ear will be described. The model is reduced to the fifth order PDE for the transverse displacement of the basilar membrane that allows easy and fast numerical computations for different geometries correspondent to the inner ear of different vertebrates. Solution of the equation is found in the form of a normal mode. The dispersion equation obtained and analyzed. Validation of the model based on the literature data is carried out.
