prof. Natalia Kizilova, ZA MEiL, Advanced problems of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics in complex geometries

Contemporary technologies are often based on nature inspired evolutionary optimized solutions. In the presentation a brief review of bio-mimicking structured surfaces for material sciences, heat and mass exchangers, aerodynamics, and fluid mechanics is presented. Thermodynamics of heat and mass transport through porous membranes (CO2 separation, gas purification, etc) of different geometry is considered. The nature inspired design based on nasal geometry of some polar animals is discussed. The performance optimization concept based on minimal entropy production is formulated.
